5th June 1944

Dearest Jean,

I write this to you today as tomorrow we head for Normandy.

My squadron and I are ready to go and win this war.

For England.

For us Jean, then we can be together for ever.

I’ll be back to spend the next 70 years with you.

My deepest love

Nice. Normandy and what it meant and means has been on my mind all week. So many letters like this.
